In Honor
of Ryan September 7, 1982 - December 10, 2002
Although
the bad economy has greatly reduced our resources, we are determined to carry on the best we can. Our cancer warriors
never quit. And neither will we! But we have had to make some changes to our program because of the enormous number
of applicants and our limited funds. So, effective with the 2011 awards, only those with a diagnosis of lymphoma (any
type or stage) will be eligible. We make this change reluctantly but we know that it is necessary.
Contributions
of any amount are welcome. We receive no corporate funding or grants, and it has been the modest but steady support of those
who care about this cause that have enabled us to award over $110,000 in scholarships since we started in 2003. We'd say that's
pretty impressive for a grass roots effort, and we're grateful to those who have supported us and honored Ryan by doing so.

- DID
YOU KNOW THAT........
- Scholarships for kids fighting cancer are very limited.
- Academics can suffer if the
student is too sick to attend school on a regular basis, thus eliminating merit scholarships.
- Most students fighting
cancer are too sick to earn an athletic scholarship.
- Doctor appointments and treatments often prevent participation
in many extracurricular activities, which precludes scholarships recognizing these activities.
- Students fighting cancer
possess extraordinary spirit and determination and have overcome terrible obstacles.
- We want to recognize and reward
this remarkable courage by helping these kids with college expenses...don't you?
- You can help by sending your tax
deductible contribution in today - we promise that every dime will go directly to assist a student in attaining his or her
dream.

The Ryan Mullaly Second Chance Fund
is a non-profit corporation offering scholarship assistance to young people who are fighting lymphoma. We are looking for
young men and women whose high school years were disrupted by lymphoma and whose ability to qualify for most scholarships
was precluded by the extensive absenteeism and physical disabilities which result from chemotherapy and radiation. The financial
impact on families dealing with cancer is significant. In addition to many expenses not covered by health insurance, families
often experience a substantial loss in income as one parent must stop working to care for the ill child. There are enormous
transportation and meal expenses as the family tries to keep up with doctor and hospital visits and child care for other children
at home. Any savings the family might have for college is rapidly used up in an effort to keep up with mounting bills. All
of this is in addition to the terrible stress, sadness and worry that each family member is enduring through no fault of their
own.
Ryan fought this battle for almost seven years and never gave up his goal of attending college. Although this
was not to be, we are determined to assist other young people in achieving their dream of a higher education.
WHO
WE SERVE:
Cancer and cancer treatment takes a terrible toll on high school students, many of whom are unable to
graduate on time, to do well on the SATS, to attend class regularly or to participate in sports or other activities that might
culminate in a scholarship for college. The Fund aims to serve this group of youngsters who have been deprived of a normal
high school experience that most teenagers take for granted.
OUR REQUIREMENTS:
1.
You are a citizen or permanent resident of the United States; 2. You were diagnosed with lymphoma (any type) or
a recurrence of lymphoma between age 13 and graduation from high school; 3. You were under active treatment for lymphoma
while in high school, resulting in a substantial impact on your ability to attend class, take the SAT's, etc.; 4. You
have a treatment history which includes chemotherapy and/or radiation; 5. You are currently a high school senior graduating
in 2011; 6. You have not previously been awarded a scholarship from our Fund; AND 6. You will be pursuing
an Associate's or Bachelor's degree at an accredited 2 year or 4 year college OR you will be enrolled in an accredited post-secondary
vocational or trade program which will culminate in certification.
Each award is $1,000. Priority is given
to students still undergoing treatment and those with permanent effects from treatment. Proof of diagnosis and treatment is
required in the form of a letter from the treating oncologist. WE HAVE SELECTED OUR WINNERS FOR 2011. PLEASE VISIT US AGAIN IN
JANUARY, 2012 FOR INFORMATION ON NEXT YEAR'S AWARDS. We
wish all of our cancer warriors the best of health and much success in your educational pursuits. THUMBS UP!
